Celebrating the news on Twitter, Lil Nas X thanked his fans and responded to his critics “Y’all told a 19 year old who had just escaped the lowest point of his life that he would never have a hit again”, he tweeted. “You told him to stop while he’s ahead. he could’ve gave up. but 4 multi platinum songs and 2 #1’s later, he’s still here. thank you to my team and my fans!”, before he added, “SUCK MY DICK! LETS GOOOO!!”

Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” dominated the Hot 100 for a record-breaking 19 weeks. “Montero” is Lil Nas X’s fifth Hot 100 entry, all of which have hit the top 40. Between his two leaders, he charted with “Rodeo,” with Cardi B/Nas peaking at No. 22 in July 2019), “Panini” reaching No. 5 in September 2019, and “Holiday” hitting No. 37 on November 2020.
